Loren and the Machine
written and illustrated by Yuriko Toru (百合子 亨) (mirrors http://s2b2.livejournal.com/353218.html) The shop smelled like motor oil from a block away. Pushing the door open, Loren was hit with a wave of exhaust fumes and a grimy gray gloom. Peering into the darkness, she picked her way across the floor to a counter she could barely […]

Palindrome International
by H.P. Lovecock (力。下。愛ちんちん) (mirrors http://s2b2.livejournal.com/353310.html) Let’s do a thought experiment: say you had a button that caused simulated pain. Sort of like the Milgram experiment, but in a different context. Let’s say you have four pixels on a screen in front of you, and whenever you press the button a tiny speech bubble pops […]

What You Deserve
by TK Hoshikuzu (TK 星屑) (mirrors http://s2b2.livejournal.com/353895.html) 203X She was proud of the faded scar beneath her navel. It was a tiny reminder of the meticulously planned trip to the clinic, which had included deceiving her mother and her job about her whereabouts. It wasn’t as though she regretting having Ashlyn, but – working through […]

Dick
by shukyou (主教) (mirrors http://s2b2.livejournal.com/354055.html) “What’s it do?” I asked, staring into the box. “What do you mean, what’s it do?” asked Isha. “It’s a dick.” I could see that. “But what’s it do?” “It does what dicks do,” Isha said. She poked at its head, and a small pink lightning storm erupted from the […]

The uninvited visitors
by Hyakunichisou 13 (百日草 十三) (mirrors http://s2b2.livejournal.com/354313.html) “There’s no flipping way,” one of the girls said, voice low but carrying, “that she’s the chosen one.” Bent in half, hands on thighs, lungs heaving, Alice couldn’t help but think the girl had a point. She watched a bead of sweat drop through her field of focus […]

The Best of All Possible Worlds
(mirrors http://s2b2.livejournal.com/354815.html) Tess had never been that fond of Kansas. There was something about all that flat land in one place that really rubbed her the wrong way, and it felt like it got a little flatter and smoother each time she came back that way. You couldn’t really hide when the land was flat, […]

The Queen of the Sunken City
by Tamari Erin (玉里えりん) (mirrors http://s2b2.livejournal.com/355044.html) The room shook, and Mitsuki lunged for a railing. Her needle-gun slipped from her fingers and bounced off the metal catwalk to plunge into the darkness of the vast control centre. High above, her sharp blue features illuminated by the beams of psychic ‘light’ she used to rule her […]

Z.S.
by Houndstooth (mirrors http://s2b2.livejournal.com/355169.html) I’m not inclined to bury the lede, and this story isn’t going to make any sense without telling you about this, so I might as well get it out of the way first. About eighty years ago I served as the onboard AI of a C-class scientific research vessel, the U.E.R. […]

Hazy Cosmic Jive
by Renaissance Makoto J (ルネサンス・真・J) (mirrors http://s2b2.livejournal.com/316961.html) The squirrel woke West up at precisely 7:30 AM on a Tuesday (August 18th, to be precise), and informed him that hostile aliens would be arriving in eight days and that it might be wise to leave Los Angeles. Explaining this to the guys at the Jet Propulsion […]
