As my submission for the upcoming Artist Special 7 has been taking up a lot of my time recently I opted to create a pinup illustration in lieu of a written work; given how busy I've been in recent months this turned out to be a very good idea!
The name is derived from Hyakinthos/Hyacinthus, one of the god Apollo's approximately five hundred zillion paramours, as sometimes you just want to go for some Hellenistic mythology themes when you're stumped for ideas. Mourning the loss of the sun felt like a pretty natural fit, and gave me a chance to experiment with different painting styles in addition to a full-body figure. The scenery ended up not being based on anything in particular but I wanted to convey a sense of otherworldliness and depth to what could have been a simple background.
I ended up getting this done in a single day of work, which felt pretty good, all things considered.
