La chevaliere is a story written by Yamanashi Moe and illustrated by quaedam. It ran in Yes, And 2 at http://s2b2.livejournal.com/281491.html, and is mirrored at http://www.shousetsubangbang.com/mirror/la-chevaliere/.
From fairyninjas.wordpress.com: "Another two-part story, this one about a historical romance about knight of indeterminate gender and a lady of intermediate race."
Every time I start writing a historically-based story for ss*bb, I tell myself I will not get dragged into disproportionate amounts of research, and every time, I am wrong. Having said that, this story was inspired by a historical figure I already knew a fair bit about: Adrienne is a fictionalized version of the Chevalier D'Eon, an 18th-century spy, soldier, and ambassador who lived the second half of her life as a woman. Gabrielle is fictional, but her life circumstances were inspired by those of Dido Elizabeth Belle, who I knew of entirely because of the 2013 film Belle. The Chevalier de Saint-Georges was a completely real and amazing duellist, musician, and composer. I have no idea how well he actually knew the Chevalier D'Eon, but they fought a duel one time! After she started dressing publicly as a woman! History is amazing.
Thanks so much to Spacetart, my beta.
